HOCKEY CLUB FAREWELL SOCIAL.
A farewell social was tendered Mr. Charlie Walker by the Mangatoki Hockey Club on Monday at the home oi Mr. and Mrs. S. Morgan. About 40 members and tflieir friends assembled n withstanding the very rough night. Mr. •Walker is transferring to Horotiu, H ilton, with his employer, Mr. E. Good acre A happv evening was spent in zanies competitions, music and dancing. S "£ Kelly won to FfS' euchre prize for ladies Mr. J. the men’s. Consolation prizes were pre seated to Mrs. A. McGuinness and Mr Walton. Musical items were contnbuted by Miss D. Gatenby and . Messis. K. Burt Walton, Baldock and Carey. Miss E? Gatenby U Mr. Walto J* packet and menu competition!, and Miss Nora Kelly the musical parcel. After supper Mr. Parker, on behalf of the hockey club, expressed regret at the loss of such a promising player and on. who played to 8W« “gVd gentlemanly manner. Mr. Walter, had been an inspiration and example to his club-mates and opponents. All wished Sm good luck in his new district and puccefs on the hockey Held On behalf of the club members Mr. Parker asked Mr Walker to accept an engraved silver button as a token of regard and esteem. TJie g«est was greeted with cheers and musical honours. Opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. E. Goodacre and regret was expressed at their departure from the district. Mr. Goodacre responded. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan were heartily thanked for the use of“ their home for the social and the donation of prizes. Mr. Morgan, in replying, expressed ap-
preciation of the assistance given by Mr. Parker in teaching the boys physically for hockey and his interest in the club’s activities. ... GENERAL ITEMS. The Mangatoki Hoekey Club has entered" a'team "fpr the junior tournament at Manaia On Thursday. They will play their cup fixture'against the Stratford High School A team at Stratford next Tuesday. Thomson., members of the Taranaki Education Board, intend visiting the Mangatoki school to-morrow afternoon to present to Jean Dudley the prize won by her in the fire prevention composition competition held in the Taranaki primary schools. .
