W.E.A. AT NEW PLYMOUTH
FINAL LECTURE OF SERIES.
MUSIC AND ART COURSE PLANNED.
The final lecture of the New Plymouth W.E.A. course was held last night, the subject being, “Whither, Mankind?” After the lecture a vote was taken on the question of arranging a course in music, art, literature and drama, illustrated with gramophone records, sets of plays and pictures. A 12-evening fortnightly course was approved, enrolments to be invited.
The lecturer, Mr. J. A. Brailsford, spoke of the possibility that W’.E.A. lectures could not be continued next year because of the loss of the Government’s financial help, but he expressed the hope that correspondence work at least would be continued with the moral support of local groups. Mr. Brailsford expressed thanks to those who had given valuable voluntary help to the movement as members of the local executive during the past three years. Mr. J. H. Sheat (president) said all members would regret that the course had ended and would hope that in spite of the present outlook Mr. Brailsford would be returning next year to continue the work.
