GOVERNOR RECEIVES AUTHORITY.

PASTORAL OF 1930 SUPERCEDED.

(British Wireless.) Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, June 6. In a Parliamentary answer regarding the settlement of the Malta the Colonial Secretary (Sir Philip Cun-liffe-Lister) said members would •nave seen that on June 3 Archbishop Caruana of Malta and Bishop Gonzi of Gozo had issued a new pastoral which superceded the pastoral of May, 1930. The British Government held the same view as its predecessors that if ths 1930 pastoral remained in force it would be impossible for a free election in Malta to take place. Sir Philip was glad to say that situation no longer existed and tne Governor (Sir David Campbell) had been authorised to proceed with the elections.
