EXPECTATIONS OF ABOUT ad.

POSITION IN CENTRAL TARANAKI.

There is every indication that unless there is an unprecedented drop in market prices dairy companies in Central Taranaki will pay a bonus at the end of the season amounting in most cases to about 2d, while one company anticipates its bonus may reach 3d. This means that the companies will pay an average of lid to Is, or perhaps slightly more over the whole season. HOCKEY DANCE AT MANGATOKI An enjoyable dance was held at the Mangatoki hall on .Thursday, the function havino- been arranged by the local hockey club. It was entirely successful and the hall was filled with local residents and visitors from Stratford, Eltham, Kaponga and Okaiawa. Mrs. Attrill’s orchestra played the music and extras were given by Miss E. Leuthard, Mr. M. Thompson and Mr. A. M. Wilson. Mr. A. Willan was master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr. R. Beech and-Miss Kurta and a spot dance by Mr. K. Jenkins and Miss I. Vallis. ANZAC DAY AT ELTHAM. MEMORIAL SERVICES ARRANGED. A united memorial service will be held at the Eltham town hall at 11 a.m. on Anzac Day. Preceding the service a parade consisting of the Eltham Brass Band, Pipe Band, Returned Soldiers’ League, Boy Scouts and Salvation Army Band will assemble at the fire station at 10.15 and -proceed to the school memorial gates. Here a short service will be held before that at the town hall. MATAU DISTRICT NEWS. PERSONAL AND GENERAL. A dance organised by the Matau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union in aid of hall funds was held on April 15. There was an excellent attendance. Several novelty dances were enjoyed. Mr. E. McCoard and Mrs. W. Rawlinson were the winners of the waltzing competition and the spot and Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr. B. Rolfe and partner and Mr. L. Mounsey and partner respectively. A cushon donated by Mrs. G. Rawlinson and a pair of ducks donated by Mrs. R. Chapman were competed for, Airs. W. R. Smellie winning the cushion and Masters C. and B. Rawlinson the ducks. Music was supplied by Airs. J. S. Fletcher, “extras” being played by Aliss Smaill, Alessrs.- L. Burke, W. Rawlinson, Al. Jensen and A. Young. The cream lorries are now running twice weekly and it will not be long now before the milking season is over. The Rev. H. 8. Hamilton held a church- service at Matau on Sunday evening and was the guest of Air. and Mrs. E. Evans., Mrs. H. Larsen has returned from a visit to New Plymouth and Inglewood. Aliss D. Rawlinson is away on holiday. The Taranaki East vestry met at Stratford on Tuesday. Those present were the Rev. H. S. Hamilton (chairman), R. Alounsey (Purangi), G. Coates (Pohokura), Roberton (Tahora), Rumball /Douglas) and Airs. H. Larsen (Matau). Correspondence relating to the mission boxes which are well distributed throughout the district was read. The standing committee at Hamilton ■ wrote explaining that it had decided that after the district’s quota for mission funds had been deducted the rest should be divided into three parts, two to go to the principal missions and the third part to be refunded to the vestry. MANGAMINGI NEWS. Only a fair number attended the Afangamingi householders’ meeting. Air. L. C. Barnard, retiring chairman, presided. The chairman’s report stated that a certain amount of work had been done under the unemployment scheme and recommended the incoming committee to finish the work already started. The general account showed a balance of £3 3s and the social account a credit of £1 13s. The healthy credit balance was due to the committee’s holding a series of euchre parties and the proceeds of a box of tea donated by Airs. Kirk. The donation of school prizes was cancelled ■but the school concert and picnic were held as usual. The committee was reelected, Mr. W. Hardwick-Smith _ being appointed chairman and secretary .in lieu of Mr. Barnard, who refused nomination for that position. The warm rains during the past two 'weeks have been of great benefit to the crops and pastures. Top-dressing is being done at present, practically everyone being busy with that class of work. Keen interest is being taken in the golf club, there being at present between 30 and 40 members with several more in view. A medal round of 36 holes is being played for the purpose of re- I handicapping. The recently erected golt I house is a boon.

Mr. L. H. Barnard has returned home after a lengthy visit to New Plymouth. Mrs. J. L. Rowe, who has been staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodley, has returned to her home in Hawera.

Mrs. E. Woodley is staying at Hawera to recuperate from her severe illness.

TUTUTAW A NEWS.

The Tututawa school committee elected for the ensuing vears is Messrs.'A. J. Holley (chairman), J. Wallace, C. Gibbs, A. White and H. L. Walker (secretary,. A successful bachelors’ ball was held in the hall on April 12. Vinsen’s orchestra supplied the music to a crowded hall. •The grader and a gang of unemployed men have been busy on the main and byroads, improving them considerably. A team of Tututawa tennis players visited Strathmore in the week-end. The home team carried off the laurels. A return match is to be played on the Tututawa courts to-day. Miss Smith, Stratford, spent the weekend with Mrs. Corkill, Tawhiwhi.
