AWAKINO NOTES

PERSONAL AND GENERAL.

The monthly meeting of the AwakinoMokau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at Mokau on Tuesday, when Mrs. W. D. Black presided over a meeting of the following members: Mesdames A. Sole, F. SmitlT, W. Winstauley, P. Herbert, L. Jones, S. Whitehead, W. F. Kelly, A. Waite, Hutchinson, A. Sampson, _F. Widt, N. Clifton, E. Lewis and Miss Roberts. Mrs. F. Widt was hostess. A paper from the meeting of the advisory board of the Women s Division held at Wellington on March 24 was read, and a good deal of discussion took place regarding the penalising of country school children through the curtailment of expenditure in primary schools. A demonstration of stencil work on glass, tinware and material was given by Mrs. A. Sole. Owing to the heavy rain at the weekend the closing day at the Awakino tennis courts was not field and tile bowling tournament which was to have been completed had to be postponed for another week.

A leap year dance held on Saturday evening under the auspices of the Awakino Tennis Club proved a great success. ,

On Wednesday afternoon an aeroplane en route to Hamilton was forced to land on the Mokau beach owing to engine trouble, but later proceeded on its way. Mrs. H. Gray has returned from Nelson

Mr. and Mrs. S. Smith, who have been the guests of Mrs. Fraser Smith, have returned to Helensville. Miss K. Murray (Melbourne) has been the guest of Mrs. Keith Black. Mr. and Mrs. Guild Richards spent the week-end in Te Kuiti.

Mr. Ray Russell has returned from Auckland.

Mr. J. Wareing has returned from a trip to Canterbury. Mr. Ray Whitehead has returned from Wellington. Miss Lena Bartlett’ is spending a holiday at Mokoia. Misses Ethel and Alice Baticy are staying at New Plymouth. Miss Laurent is the guest of Mrs. B. May. Miss Margaret East has returned to New Plymouth. Mrs. Lang, New Plymouth, has been the guest of Mrs. Marsh. Mrs. Howell, Wellington, has been staying with Mrs. E. Marsh.
