WELLINGTON WAR MEMORIAL
FORMAL DEDICATION CEREMONY.
BARING OF HEADS SUGGESTED.

Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington citizens’ war memorial was formally handed to the city thi< afternoon at a dedication ceremony attended in perfect weather by a large gathering. The parade included a detachment of the New Zealand Naval Division, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, territorials, college cadets and returned soldiers. The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe were present and' the dedication was performed by the Bishop of Wellington (the Rt. Rev.' T. H. Sprott). Among the speakers were the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) and the Minister of Public Works (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates), who proposed that in accordance with the practice in London at the Cenotaph citizens should display their homage by baring thenheads as they passed the memorial. The suggestion was supported by Colonel H. E. Avery - (president' of the Returned Soldiers’ Association) and other speakers.
