The weekly quotations for the undermentioned classes of frozen meat are based on actual sales of wholesale quantities of carcases of mutton or lamb, or of quarters of beef delivered to Smithfield market, and/or ex London stores. They are compiled by the quotations’ committee, Smithfield.

INCREASING DEMAND FOR SHEEP. > CATTLE MARKET STILL SLOW. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford, reports that forward lambs and wethers are keenly sought and are in short supply. There is an increasing demand for ewes in lamb to black-face rams, but most vendors are inclined to hold, them until prices harden. Most lots offering are small, prices ranging from Bs. to Bs. 6d., with bigger lines 9s. 6d. to IQs. and four and six-tooth ewes 12s. 6d.

i During the week paddock sales of I forward-conditioned lambs ranged from 18s. 6d. to 95., with wethers 10s. 6d. to Ils. 6d. Demand for in-calf heifers and weanera is still slow, good weaners quoting from £2 to £2 10a. and two-year incalf heifers from £5 to £6 ss.

At the Douglas sale on Monday there was an average yarding of sheep, twotooth wethers selling from 10s. to 10s. 4d., lambs te. to 6s. lid., forward lambs Bs. 6d. and empty ewes 6s. 6d. Cattle were sold at late rates. At Stratford on Tuesday forwardconditioned cows brought 245. to £2 and store cows 13s. to 19s. At Tarata on Friday there was a fair yarding of" sheep and cattle. Good for-ward-conditioned black-face lambs made 9s. 3d., fat and forward wether lambs 195., small lambs ss. to 6s. 3d., store cows 155., fat cows to £3, forward-con-ditioned bullocks £2' 10s., and store bullocks 2Hs. FEILDING STOCK SALE. PRICES FOR FAT SHEEP FIRM. Feilding, April 15. Fat sheep were firm at recent rates at the stock sale to-day. There was a fairly large yarding and freezing companies’ buyers again operated freely. Fat lambs: Primest 215., prime 16s. 7d. to 17e. 6d., good 14s. 6d. to 15s. 9d., medium from Bs. 6d.
