CENTRAL DIVISION RUGBY

REVIEW OF PAST SEASON. SUCCESS OF THE TOKO TEAMS. ' The success of the Toko first juniors and fourths in winning the central division championship and of Toko firsts i in winning the, provincial championship was favourably commented on in the report presented last night to the meet- , ing of central division delegates who met to appoint a committee to control Rugby in the division during the season. Air. J. Stephens junr. presided. The annual report stated that competition in the first junior ■ grade was keen and fairly even at the commencement of the season, but later, owing to weather and other unavoidable incidents causing postponements, interest seemed to fade to a certain degree. The committee extended congratulations to the Toko Club. The interest displayed in the third grade competition had not been up to standard. This probably could be attributed to the difficulty experienced by the Celtic and Stratford clubs in fielding teams. The committee trusted that an improvement would .be noticeable this season. To the Technical High School team, the committee offered congratulations upon winning the divisional championship. Unlike the third grade, the interest displayed by players in the fourth grade competition was particularly keen. It had been ’found impossible to arrange a date for a match with the southern division this season, but the committee intended to make provision for a town v. country game shortly. All outstanding levies had been paid. The following executive was elected: Messrs. J. Stephens (Celtic), L. Knowles (Toko), P. Anderson (Alidhirst), D. Blackstock (Pukengahu), R. Coles (Inglewood), R, J. Whiting (Eltham), A. H. R. Amess (S.T.H.S.), L. Wynyard (Stratford) and P. Horn (Cardiff). Attributing one of the causes for failing interest in junior football to the delay in starting matches, Air. Horn moved that the commencing time be 2 p.m. for ■ the first month. Country clubs favoured this move but after certain difficulties had been'pointed I out the time of starting was fixed. at 2.30 p.m., or earlier where mutually satisfactory arrangements could be made.
