WAIRARAPA FARMERS’ NEED
DROUGHT AFFECTS STOCK. LOAN SOUGHT TO BUY FEED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A request that the Government should arrange with the Rural Intermediate Credit Board to advance £20,000 to the Wairarapa dairy farmers in order to purchase fodder during the winter was made to the Ministe of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. MacMillan, to-day by a deputation representing the Wairarapa provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union. It was stated that a. loan could be be arranged on a business footing without cost to the State, and that it would be repayable out of cream cheques next season. The deputation was introduced by Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., president of the Farmers’ Union. He said the dry season in the Wairarapa had proved very serious and the farmers of the district were up against it. They had a proposition to put before the Govern- • ment which would not cost the State anything. It was essential that some- ' thing should be done to help the dairy herds through the winter. The Minister promised to approach the necessary authorities with a view to assisting the farmers concerned as soon as possible. ' —
