ELECTRIC CURRENT STOLEN
COMPANY MANAGER’S SCHEME.
TWO FINES £2O IMPOSED.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
To Arolia, April 15.
Edward S. Thomas, Paeroa, was fined £2O on each of two charges of tampering with the .Thames Valley Electric Power Board’s lines and fraudulently extracting power. Defendant, by an ingenious contrivance, caused a circuit, cutting out the meter. To avoid detection a special switch was operated by pulling a cord at defendant’s desk, which caused the electricity to pass through the meter should the power board officials arrive to inspect. Counsel for the power board stated that it was estimated that the board 1 was losing £3.000 yearly by thefts. Defendant was manager of the WaihiPaeroa Transport Company.
