shower evening. --:
A large number of friends from Hawera, Patea and Kakaramea districts gathered at the Kakaramea hall on Thursday night, when a “shower” evening was given to Miss B. Ward, one of the most popular young ladies of Kakaramea. Miss Ward is to -be married to-day at Patea to Mr. F. Rodgers. The evening was devoted to dancing, about 75 couples taking the floor. Music was supplied by Miss G. Chadwick at the piano, and between dances a programme of musical and elocutionary items was given. Songs were sung by Miss A. Adams and Mrs. McDonald, to Miss Houstin’s accompaniments; Miss G. Hall played a pianoforte solo, and recitations were given by Mr. W. Watt and Wilson Hulbert.
The chairman (Mr. P. Tong) expressed the sentiments of all present when he said the district was losing a much respected dnd popular young lady. The evidence of the many valuable presents that had been given proved the high esteem in which Miss Ward was held by her friends. Mr. Tong asked her to accept the gifts and on behalf of all present wished her good luck and prosperity in her marriage. Mr. W. Ward, on behalf of his sister, thanked all who had assisted in the gathering, which was very much appreciated by his sister, and said she would carry away- very pleasant recollections of her many friends. Supper was served, and Hie rest of the evening was given to dancing. Extras were played by Mrs. A. Carey.
