WORK FOR CHURCH AND DOMINION
The Rev. Professor W. Hewitson, 8.A., Dunedin, who is to perform the opening service of the new St. Andrew’s church to-day, is one of the leading men in the New Zealand ecclesiastical world. For 14 years he was minister of Knox Church, Dunedin, the communicant membership of which was then the largest of all the Presbyterian churches in Australia and New Zealand. From the work of the regular ministry ho went on to the mastership of Knox College and became Professor in the Theological Hall. For IS years he was a teacher of the English Bible and practical training. Master of Knox College for 20 years, he had a lasting influence over the lives not only. of students of the Presbyterian ministry but also of University men of every faculty. Professor Hewitson has travelled widely and gained a wide knowledge of educational institutions and residential colleges in Great Britain, America, the Continent and the East. He has been Chancellor of Otago University and has held many positions of trust in the church and the community.
