The first Kirk session for Taranaki was held in the year 1884. The sederunt was: Rev. J. Torrey, moderator; elders, William Black and Isaac Jolly. The session proceeded to make up a communion roll. It included the following names: William Murray, Mrs. Murray, William Black, elder, Mrs. Black, Mary Raymond, J. B. Lawson, Horace Walker, Mrs. Walker, Mrs. (Jane) McKoy), Mrs. Wells (Aaron), Eva Wells, from St. Mary’s, James Sanderson, Mrs. Sanderson (Elizabeth), George Bain, Mrs. Bain (Catherine), Robert G. Bauchope, Mrs. Bauchope (Helen), Mrs. Morton, Mrs. Davidson, Robert Foolis (certificatey from Wanganui), Frederick H. Watson, Isabella Sutherland, Mrs. Bland, Mrs. Hogarth, Mr. Handy, Mrs.' Handy, Mrs. Mclsaac, Mrs. McGiven and Christina McKenzie—29 names in all.
