10-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT
DISTRICT RUGBY COMPETITION. WIN FOR FACTORY TEAM. A cold wind and unpleasant conditions attended the annual district Rugby football tournament held at Midhirst for the Garrard Cup. Five teams entered the competition on the basis of 10-a-side but owing to a draw in both the first and second rounds the final game was not able to be played until very late. It was between the factory team and Waipuku and resulted in another draw, 3-all, but by mutual consent the game was resumed, extra spells of five minutes each being played until Factory secured another try, thus winning the cup presented by Mr. A.. E. Garrard. Following are details of the tournament, which was watched by a fair •rowd. The Tuna team consisted of Tuna and Cross Road combined. First Round. Midhirst 3 v. Denbigh Road 0. Tuna 0 v. Factory 0. Waipuku a bye. Denbigh Road was thus eliminated. Second Dound. Factory 8. v. Midhirst 0. Waipuku 0 v. Tuna 0. Midhirst were eliminated, leaving the other three teams equal, but the Tuna team had ( to withdraw at this stage owing to the lateness of the hour. Factory and Waipuku therefore played the final in the gathering darkness. At the end of the game proper the score was 3-all and extra spells had to be played, Factory winning by 6 to 3.
