GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS.

Members of the Kaimata Women’s Institute met on Thursday night to form a play-reading circle. All the members were enthusiastic and two plays were decided on, to be read at a concert to be given by the Women’s Institute in the near future. The monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Monday, those present being Messrs. J. Klenncr (chairman), Salisbury, Gibbins, Bracegirdle and Jackson. The chairman stated that he had interviewed the county engineer regarding the forming and-•metalling of a roadway to the school and residence, and had been given an estimate for the work. The committee decided that the •work'should be put in hand at once, the engineer having stated that he was prepared to do the work this month. It was decided to leave the work of levellin'* the playground until the spring, and in the meantime bold some functions to raise the necessary money. The head-

teacher stated that the agricultural instructor had visited the school that day. The school children are preparing lor basketball and football. A well-attended meeting of those interested in the formation of a Kaimata basketball team was held on luesday afternoon. Sufficient players were offerin'*. The officers elected were: Captain, mFss R. Dobson; vice-captain. Miss h. Dobson; secretary, Miss K. Hewcs. It was decided to hold the first practice on the school court on Tuesday. The annual meeting of the card club at the hall on Tuesday night was well attended. A vote of thanks and a small honorarium were tendered to the retiring secretary (Miss I. Miss E. Burkhart, who has been confined to bed with a severe chill for nearly a fortnight, is making a good recovery. . Y local resident had an escape from injury on Tuesday morning, when his car went over a steep bank on Junction Road. The car did not capsize and both occupants escaped without injury.
