WAITARA DOMAIN BOARD

REMISSION OF CHARGE SOUGHT. A deputation comprising Messrs. _ S. D. George and V. Penman, representing the Waitara Cycle and Athletic Club, waited on the Waitara Borough Council last night and asked that the 1 per cent, charge on the gate takings at the recent sports meeting in the Camp Reserve be remitted. They pointed out that the club had spent considerable funds in improving the ground and that the cricket and hockey clubs, which also used the ground, had contributed nothing to the improvements. Or. George said there were no charges for admission to the hockey and cricket matches. If there were the 10 per cent, would have to be paid. The money paid by the sports club would be expended on further improvements, the council having during the past two or three years°expended 1200 on improvements. Discussincr the matter at the meetin<r of the Domain Board subsequently, the chairman said that the charges had been arrived at by a sub-committee and had been agreed to by the board. He recognised that the Cycle and Athletic Club had done splendid work, but others had assisted it, whilst the Domain Board had never refused it any request. It was resolved that the board could not see its way to waive the 10 pel cent, charge. The Cycle and Athletic Club was granted the use of the ground for a sports meetiiia on April 30. The Taranaki Rugby Union was granted the use of the ground on the same terms as last season.

The Clifton Football Club was granted the use of the ground on April 16 and 23.
