FINANCE OF INVERCARGILL
SUBSTANTIAL CREDIT BALANCE.

Invercargill, Last Night. According to a statement presented to the meeting of the City Council thia evening by the chairman of the finance committee the financial position of the council is most satisfactory. Nearly 91 per cent, of the total rates levied was paid before March 31, this being an improvement of 1J per cent, on the position last year. The reductions and economies effected at the beginning of the year and the close watch kept on expenditure, states the report, are reflected in the credit balance in the general account of £7927.
