SIR R. SQUIRES STILL IN OFFICE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. St. John’s, April 12. H.M.S. Dragon, a light cruiser, anchored in the harbour of the Newfoundland capital this morning. All has been quiet here for several days following the unemployed's disturbances at Parliament House. Two thousand citizens, including many war veterans, had enrolled for police duty in ease of further disturbances,. but their services were not required.
Sir Richard Squires is still in office as Prime Minister, though there is uncertainty in regard to the strength of the Government. He says he has no Intention of resigning. Interest is centred around the announcement by the Governor, Sir John Middleton, that he will appoint a Royal Commission to investigate the disorders.
It is expected that the Assembly will resume its sessions within a few days.
