TROTS BEGIN AT HAWERA

USEFUL HORSES ENGAGED ARABOND HAS GOOD CUP CHANCE GAY PAREE IN' MANAI'A hANDH'CAP

(By

“Hurry On.”)

There will be plenty of material at the opening of the Hawera /Trotting Club’s meeting to-day to provide gdod racing. The public will have the opportunity of seeing horses of the class of Worthy Queen, Arabond, Silver de Oro and Sandown in action. The course is reported to be in splendid order and given fine weather a fine gathering should result. The club has made the admission charges very low, race * goers will find every facility on the course for the enjoyment of the days sport. Proceedings commence with the AUROA HANDICAP, of £75; limit 3.40. One mile and a half.—Belinda King, Golden Oaks, Historian, Luminate, Loyalty, Marvin Bingen, Rector, Reveille, Shaun Spadah, Storm Queen, Tui Coronado, Winslow limits Mihad 12 yds bhd, Astral 36yds. 1 Numerically this is the best field of the day. Quite a number showed form at Greytown and Ashhurst, Reetor, Astral, Mihad, Historian, Shaun Spadah. and Luminate all being in the money, while Golden Oaks hails from a powerful stable. This should be a.good betting race, with Rector, Ruminate and Historian in most demand. MATAPU-HANDICAP, of £B5; limit 3.50. One mile and a half. —Amy Etawah, Nelson’s Request limit, El Merit 72yds bhd, La Campione 96yds, Hue Coronado 120yds. i This is a small field, and El Merit won' so decisively at Greytown that it would only seem a matter of his doing it right to collect the stake. Nelsons Request and La Campion© may follow him home. 1 STRATFORD HANDICAP, of £B5; limit. 3.36. One mile and a half.— Lady Coronado 12yds bhd, Daddy Longlegs, Mr. Penalty, Lee Nelson, Special Sun 24yds, Highland Derby 72yds. Daddy Longlegs created a big impression at Ashhurst, where he went two slashing good races. Mr. Penalty, Speciafgun and Lee Nelson all go well, and Highland Derby may be hard to dispose of if he leaves the mark correctly. However, Daddy Longlegs and Special Sun should have a say in the finish. ' HAWERA CUP HANDICAP, of £250. Limit 4.40. Two miles. —Arabond, Native Hero, Nelsonian, Sandown, Silver de Oro limit. 1 Though there are only five to face the starter in the principal event of the day, there is every probability of a fine contest. Arabond did an impressive trial at Ashhurst in the Manawatu Plate, when he registered 4.33 4-5 for the two miles and came home in great style. ■ Sandown, one of C. S. Donalds team, also went well in the same race, but Arabond now meets him on better terms. Silver de Oro won easily at Greytown, but lost whatever chance she might have had at Ashhurst by dwelling at the start. Nelsonian has a chance, but Native Hero does not appeal. Arabond will probably carry more money than Silver de Oro and Sandown. . ’ J MANATA HANDICAP, of £100; limit 4.56. Two miles.—Gay Paree, Hardy Grattan, Kitty Patch limit, Hu© Coronado, Todd Bingen 12yds bhd. Nobody will 1 want anything but Gay Paree here, though he is a bit “iffy’ on the mark. Should he fail to , get away Kitty Patch and Todd Bingen might show up. ■ NORMANBY HANDICAP, of £100; limit 3.0. One mile and a quarter.— Marvin Bingen, Mihad, Shaun Spadah limit, Lady Coronado, Mild Derby 24yds bhd, Lee Nelson, Special Sun 36yds, Princess Thea 48yds. Quite a number of these will have .started * earlier in the day and their form may give backers a line. Mihad, Shaun Spadah and Special Sun have recent form, but Princess Thea, who went very well at New Brighton, is likely to be a good favourite. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP of £B5; limit 4.46. Two miles. —Tennessee’s Child, Tini Uria limit, Capilano 12yds bhd, Highland Derby, Prince Pedro 24 yds, Worthy Queen 48yds, Silver de Oro 72yds. 1 . The presence of Worthy Queen will attract a lot of attention, and Mr. Corrigan’s trotter is sure to be served up a hot order, but Tini Uria and Prince Pedro will keep her moving most of the way. ELTHAM HANDICAP, of £100; limit 2.52. One mile and a quarter. —All Red, Harvest Boy, Poi, Nelsonian, Rangih.au, Sandown limit, Silver de Oro 12yds bhd. All Red was a fair fourth at Ashhurst and may do better here, though it is difficult to see him heating Sandown and Silver de Oro. Poi won in easy style at Greytown and is improving. Possibly Poi may carry more money than Sandown and Silver de Qro.
