DAWSON FALLS NOTES
NEW TRACK THROUGH FERNS. big manuka tree, measured. a new track is being constructed below the Dawson Falls horse-paddock to connect the new look-out there with the motor road via Cossey’s track. It is a beautiful walk and there is an abundance of Prince of Wales ferns growing along its edges. v_ Perhaps the biggest known manuka tree on the mountain was measured week. It is 12ft in circumference St from the ground. It is just below Dawson Falls seat on the side of the motor road. . . , A fair number of cars visited the house on Sunday. Only one party climbed to the top. A party of 22 Masons from Feilding visited the hostel and were shown round by Messrs. Caplin, Yarrow and Westaway. During the week Mr. Burns and family, who were staying at.t-ie hostel during Christmas, returned with a party of la/ some of whom reached the summit. . , Visitors to the hostel during the week liavs included Miss N. Packer (Nelson), Airs. Packer (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. Elliott (Kohuratahi), Air. and Airs'. C. Jenseu (Wanganui) and Aliss Jensen, Alessrs. Ashton and Garfield (Wellington), Air. and Airs. Seddon (Wanganui), Mr. and Mrs. Lyttelton (Auckland), Air. and Airs. Baker (Waiuku) and Air. Bishop (Waipukurau). Mrs. 'Stephenson senr. (New Plymouth) and Airs. Stephenson junr. (Opunake) and family are staying In the top cottage.
