FAT LAMBS FOR EXPORT
EGMONT SHOW LONDON AWARDS. DIFFERENT PLAOINGS GIVEN. The London awards of the fat lamb competition at the last Egmont A. and P. show are:— Pen No. 130, A. Newell (Hawera) .. 1 Pen’No. 141, I. Lupton (Waverley) 2 Pen No. 145, Arthur Dickie (Waverley) 3 This information was received by cable at Hawera yesterday from Sheed, Thomson and Co., Ltd., London, through their New Zealand agents, Cathie, Dempster and Co., Ltd., Wellington. The local awards in the same connection were:— Pen No. 149, E. Parsons (Waverley) 1 Pen No. 137, C. E. McGuinness (Eltham) Pen No. 159, G. Hawken (Waverley) 3 Pen No. 13d, Harris Bros. (Okaiawa) 4 It will be noticed that not one of the first placings at the show in Hawera has ben placed in London. Farmers who saw Mr. A. E. Symes carry out the judging at Hawera will remember that he °spent considerable time over Mr. A. Newell’s pen, but, as the lambs stood, there appeared to be one odd lamb in the three, and Mr. Symes finally left this pen out of his placings. On the hooks, this discrepancy seemed to have been lost in the killing, and it was agreed that Mr. Newell’s pen. would be hard to beat in London. 1
