HUGE PILE OF DEBTS
GREATER SYDNEY’S MILLIONS.

Greater Sydney, if the Bill which is still pursuing a chequered course in Parliament become law, will be inaugurated with the loan indebtedness of £73,596,489. i
According to the local Government Association, the financial positions of the main undertakings embodied in the measure arc:—
Trams: Capital debt, approximately £8,000,000, on recent operations showed a loss of £448,495. Harbour Trust: Capital debt £ll,771,831, to June 30, 1931, showed a loss of £91,130. I?Water Board: Capital debt, £38,521,015, showed a loss last year of £63,279. < From these figures, even after £24,697 electric light profits are placed to credit, the gear’s operations show a deficit of £578,207. . It has been suggested by officers of the . Local Government Association possibly the Government might help y Greater Sydney by handing over revenue from the licensing of hotels tnd race- ( course taxation to offset the losses, but, in view of the present position of State finances, any such hope seems, vnin. <.
