MAINTENANCE NOT GRANTED. REFUSAL OF HUSBAND’S OFFER. ' ■ An application by Elizabeth Hun wick for separation from her husband, William C. Hunwick, of Waipuku, and the provision of a maintenance order, was refused by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Hawera Court yesterday. The application was made on the ground that plaintiff had-been-forced to live in the same home "is her husband’s people and she claimed that she was; subjected to their chaff and was the butt for thejr unkind jokes. She had left Waipuku and refused an Offer from her husband’s solicitors of another house on the same property. . Delivering judgment, the magistrate said that when a wife left her husband and applied for a separation and maintenance order she had to show the court good grounds for. such conduct. Plaintiff had done this. But after plaintiff had left her husband the position had been changed. An offer had ■ been made providing for a new house, and an undertaking given that this house would not be invaded by. relatives of the husband. Still plaintiff had refused to return, and in view of the altered position the application could not be granted. 1 HAWERA SWIMMING CLUB. TO-NIGHT’S CARNIVAL HANDICAPS.
