MAIN SCHOOL SWIMMING SPORTS R. AND NORMA NIXON CHAMPIONS Sister and brother won the senior championships at the Hawera Main school swimming sports yesterday. They were Norma Nixon and R. Nixon, each winning by a comfortable margin. The sports proved a fine outing for the children. The baths were well sheltered from the cold wind and the eun shone brightly. The junior championships were won by A. Buist (boys) and Joan Anderson (girls). The officials were: Starter, Mr. J. W. Thomas; judges, Mr. J. R. District’ officers of the Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows, visited Loyal Union Lodge, Hawera, on Tuesday night. One of the reasons for the visit was the judging of the ritual competition, and’ after the display the judges, D.S. Bro. N. C. Bellringer and P.D.G.M. Bro. W. Marr, congratulated tlie lodge, expressing the opinion that, when the results were finalised Hawera would figure D.G.M. Bro. M. Gernhoefcr, in his address, said that the Loyal Union Lodge (Hawera) was to be congratulated on 1 the decided general improvement. The increase in membership was the second highest in the district, and the lodge was to be further congratulated in that there were few who left by arrears. Regarding the district, Bro. Gcrnhoefer said it had gone ahead both financially and numerically and was in a healthy state. Two new Taranaki lodges had been opened, one at Inglewood and the other at Rahotu, and both were doing splendidly. Bros. Bellringer and Bennett congratulated the lodge on the splendid display at the Hawera jubilee. The district officers were thanked by N. Bro. J. Dombroski. It was reported that the district conference, to be held on March 17 at Hawera, would be attended by the G.M. Bro. Quigley. The installation of district officers in the evening would be: open to the public. The original Hawera lodge delegates were Bros. Sage, Hawke and Kingston, but through Bro. Kingston’s inability to attend, Bro. C. W. Allen was appointed in his place. A motion of sympathy was accorded Bro. Sage in tlie Joss of a relative. Simi- ■ lar sympathy was expressed with the relatives of the late Bro. Trott.

The coach for the ritual competition, P.G. Bro. R. Hawke, was thanked for his good work in bringing the lodge up to such a high standard.
