Besides heavy purchases by legi-timate-gold buyers, many crooks have attracted business.- The latter are offering fantastic prices for gold and then evaiiPg payment ip a variety of ways. As Hie police fear that “smash-and-grab” gangsters will work among the queues, armed detectives are mixing in 'the crowds,. while flying squad cars are continually patrolling the city watching for any suspicious raiding car. There are similar safeguards in the principal provinces and cities, .where sales of gold also continue.
