FOXTON MEETING TO-DAY

SMALL FIELDS IN MOST EVENTS.

Though there are only seven events on the programme at Foxton to-day, the fields are going to be email, and the club will be lucky if it gets off without two one-dividend races. There is a fair field for the opening event, the POROUTAWHAO HACK HURDLES.

Both Easterly and Arrowhead have holiday form to recommend them, Warzone is a good sort of hurdler, while Goldlike would only have to improve on his first day’s showing at Stratford to be dangerous. However, the public will probably go for Warzone, Arrowhead and Easterly.

HIMATANGI HACK HANDICAP. Of 70 sovs. Six furlongs.

Navaho and False Scent are both fair hacks, especially the latter if he is iu the mood. Hystride raced consistently at Marton, while Tigerism won at Awapuni and The Budget at Marton. Priscilla Verne looks the best of the otheis. Possibly the best backed will be ligerism, Hystride and Priscilla Verne. ■ FOXTON CUP.

Ruanui has plenty of weight and his form this season has not been very impressive. Balloon failed badly at Stratford, but that was not his true form and he may make amends here. Rahn showed a return to form at the Wairarapa gathering', and if he has gone the right way since will be dangerous. Chief Cook does not seem to be fulfilling the promise he showed at Riccarton. Billion goes well on the Foxton course, but Joie de Vai would appear to hold him safe, and this mare will be very hard to beat. Grand Jury does well at Foxton, and a repetition of his Feeding fonn would see him well in the picture. Arrowhead will probably taka on the hurdles. This should be a good betting race, with Joie de Vai, Pahu and Grand Jury claiming most supporters.

1 Arikinui showed a glimpse of his old form during the holidays and he knows the course. Paratoo is well, and so. is Arajean, though both have been racing over longer distances. Both Golden Shadow and False Scent go fast. Tenacre will probably be reserved for the last event, and Arikinui, Arajean and paratoo should be best backed.

CARNARVON HACK HANDICAP. Of 90 sovs. One mile.

Chief Savage went a great race behind Just an Idea at Stratford the second day and should go well in the market here. Air Laddie and In Vain look the pick of the others.

' If reserved for this Paratoo and Tenacre will have plenty of friends, but Pahu and Briar Boot are useful, and Acora and Arikira have plenty of pace.
