BRITISH BANKS’ PROFITS
ONLY MODERATE DECLINE.
POSITION MOST SATISFACTORY. -British Wireless. Rugby, Jan. 9. All the “Big Five” banks have nowdisclosed their net profits and dividend recommendations for last wear. The results in all cases are most satisfactory. Profits showed a moderate decline in in such a difficult year, but the dividends are maintained at the rates declared last summer, which are little lower than in the previous year. The directors follow the traditional; policy of British bankers in writing down assets to conservative figures, recourse being had for the purpose to, the published reserves. The forward balances are maintained after a generous provision for contingencies.
