CAMP HOLIDAY FOR BOYS
CHILDREN OF POOR 'FAMILIES NEW PLYMOUTH TOC H SCHEME. FORTNIGHT AT SHOWGROUNDS. Between 15 and 20 New Plymouth primary school boys of I'o to 14 years of whose parents have been unable to give them a holiday during the past two vears. are to -be encamped at the Waiwakai'ho showgrounds from January 9 to 23. The New Plymouth grope of Toe H is promoting the scheme,. and with the assistance of Sister Gill is at present making a choice' of the most deserving cases. A meeting pf the grope was held last night to. further arrangements in connection with the camp. The movement is purely voluntary as far as Toe H is concerned. Each member is giving financial and practical assistance while an appeal is being made for foodstuffs for the ‘boys. A number of gifts have already been received but it appears that supplies of bread, butter, potatoes and cooking fat .will be urgently needed unless promises of donations of these goods are forthcoming"'shortly. t The Taranaki Agricultural Society has granted the use of the showground and several of the buildings at Waiwakai'ho. Sleeping and dining quarters and cooking facilities will be arranged. There will be at least two or three members of the grope in constant attendance at the camp and every endeavour will be made to see that the boys’ stay will be a pleasant one. The Rev. R. Fordham Clark will act as camp-commandant, Mr. C. Cox as quartermaster, Mr. D. Hetherington as adjutant, and Mr. S. Hartnell as jobmaster. The camp committee will include Messrs Fordham Clark, Cox, E. Geake and Hetherington, all except the last-named residing at the camp for the full fortnight. These men will. not be provided for out of the donations given for the camp, but each will pay his o'wn way.
