PEACE SOUGHT
BRITAIN AND FRANCE. RUGBY RELATIONS. TI e means best suited for bringing about a resumption of international Ru<”hy football matches between France and Great Britain has been the subject of a long discussion by. the council of former French internationals, a body recently constituted with the express purpose of dealing with the question, says the Daily Telegraph. From the communique issued at the elose of the meeting it is clear that tha council has been in communication with the English Rugby Union and other competent bodies. In the light of these exchanges of views, a programme is drawn up which it is proposed should serve as a foundation for the resumption of international matches. No details of this programme, which is to be discussed with the two French federations, have been given officially, but it is said to contain the following stipulations: — . Rugby football must be amateur m the fullest sense, and players must enjoy full liberty. A committee, appointed for six years, and possessed of full powers, would be set up to direct Rugby football in France, according to the principles laid down by the council of former internationals. Independent of this committee would be another one of three members, in whose hands would rest final decisions. It also would be appointed for six years by the council of former internationals, and would act as a guarantee for the strictly amateur character of French international teams. It remains, however, to be seen how far this unofficial version coincides with the actual programme drafted by the council.
