WELCOME BY INDUSTRIES
ADDITION TO FORMER LEVIES STIMULUS TO HOME TRADE COTTON AND WOOL BENEFIT British Wireless. Rugby, Dec. 19. (Newspapers state that industrial and commercial opinion welcomed the new anti-dumping duties that came into force to-day. “It is considered that the greatest benefit of the new imposts will be felt ultimately by cotton and woollen mills, clothing and hosiery factories, manufacturers of wireless valves, electric lamps and fittings,” says the Times, “but the stimulus to home industries will not be seriously felt until the present accumulated stocks of foreign goods of these classes has been cleared.” The Telegraph-says: “The 50 per cent, is imposed in addition to, and not inclusive of, any Import duties to which any goods were liable before the issue of the orders. There are some imports which have been subject to the key industry duty of 33 1-3 per cent., glass bottles and java and wireless valves being cases in point. The impost will be 100 per cent, where a 50 per cent. ad. valorem duty was previously enforced. Cameras and their parts now become liable to to duties equivalent to their value.”
