WELL-ATTENDED BREA K.-lUP. A record number for a local school function was present at the Town Hall for the break-up on Friday afternoon. Father Christinas was met at the hal door and escorted to the pJaco of nonour at the phristmas tree., which was laden with toys. Every scholar in the primary school received a present an was entertained at afternoon tea. There was some amusement when the teachers and some of the ladies received presents from Father Christinas. The lady members of the teaching staff were presented with bouquets. The function was under the patronage of the Mothers’ League and the members of the committee were Mesdames S. Campbel , G. Baylis, D. Ross, J. Hewison and W. H. Burgess. The headmaster (Mr. W. H. Burgess) in thanking the parents for organising the festival said it showed the parents appreciated the teachers’ efforts during the year. The school year had been strenuous but successful. Mr. Burgess urged parents to see that their children received a secondary education. It was in the secondary school that teachers 1 saw the results of their efforts during the earlier life of the children. Mr. Burgess said he was sorry they were losing’ from the secondary school the services of Miss Patterson, who had in every way been a fine teacher. GENERAL ITEMS. The Presbyterian Sunday School held its annual distribution of prizes. Every child received a prize. The following were presented with gold stars for attendance; Bruce Whiting, Stanley Davey. George Byars, Diana Wheatley; Bible class, V. Watt 1, J. Wheatley 2; first class, S. Davey 1, G. Byars 2; infants, Betty Byars 1, Peyel Davey 2. The Rev. Wheatley presented the prizes and thanked the teachers and superintendent (Mrs. Watt) for the interest taken by them in the Sunday School. The members of the tennis and golf clubs held a social afternoon on Wednesday and presented Miss Gladys Hammond with a xylonite set on the eve of her marriage. -SWIMMING SPORTS. The masters of ceremonies for the juveniles were Masters D’Arcy Brewer and Tiori Daymon and for the adults Messrs. Colin Bishop and W. Rae. Extra dances were plaved by Mrs. P. Sole and Miss Yandle. ’ The committee in charge of the supper was Mesdames L. Young, S. M. Coombe, Pennington, Dobbin, McDougall, Briscoe and. Quigley. ARAWHATA SCHOOL BREAK-UP. A number of parents and friends assembled at the Arawhata school on Friday afternoon for the break-up ceremony. After afternoon tea had been served by the ladies Mr. Evans, secretary of the committee, presented every scholar with a book and. the certificates won at the Egmont County school sports to Laurie Taylor for running and Jim Bartle for running and jumping.
