With a. lead of 291 run* on the first innings and three wickets still in hand the Australians are in a very strong position against South Africa in the sec-’ ond test. .South Africa on Friday made 163 in the first innings and Australia had reached 79 runs for the loss of one wicket. To-day Australia increased the score to 444 for seven wickets, including centuries by Bradman and Rigg* The weather for the resumption of play was ideal. Woodfull and Rigg batted solidly and raised the score to 10 short of South Africa’s total before the captain lost his wicket. This wa* off the first ball to which he opened hi* shoulders. Woodfull had played a characteristic knock and broke the back of the bowling. 'When in the forties Rigg was twice dropped by Cameron in Bell’s second over. At the lunch adjournment the visitors’ total had been passed. After the resumption Bradman and Rigg increased the scoring rate. Rigg reached the coveted century after 192 minute*. He had never been really comfortable but this innings should play him into form. The first hundred had taken 119 minutes and the second 98 minutes. Bradman was moving along with his usual freedom, despite accurate bowling. He reached 50 in 85 minutes. Bell; who had bowled well but with bad luck, then claimed Ragg’s wicket. Rigg batted 240 minutes and hit 13 fours. The next hundred came up in 69 minutes with Bradman and McCabe going great guns. Bradman reached 100 in 147 minutes. This Is. his fourth successive century against the Africans, thus, beating Macarteney’s record of three centuries, Bradman then had a; lash and was-caught in the outfield. He hit ten fours. McCabe and Nitschke scored quickly in the concluding stages. With a., lead of 291 runs ..and three wickets in hand Australia is in an almost unbeatable position.
