"PARADISE OF PACIFIC”

CLAIMS TO TH® TITLE. i OBJECTION BY HAWAII. Which portion the Pacific may justly lay claim' to use tho phrase, “Paradiso of the Pacific?” This question was discussed at a meeting of the New Zealand Tourist League at Auckland on Thursday, when the chairman, Mr. G. M. Fowlds, stated that ho noticed that the Government Publicity Office xvas using the phrase in its publicity matter, in spite of an objection by the Hawaiian Tourist Bureau, which claimed that it had used the phrase for the last 20 years. Members of. the league expressed the opinion that it should be possible to originate a suitable advertising slogan for New Zealand’s use, and that the claims of Hawaii should be respected. Mr. G. Finn said the New Zealand manufacturers had tried for some years, and had spent money in prize-giving competitions, to secure the adoption of a New Zealand commercial emblem, but without success.

It was decided that the Government should be asked to consider inviting suggestions for a suitable slogan, for use in publicity work.
