RIFLE CLUBS’ SHIELD MATCH

NEW PLYMOUTH DEFEAT OKATO. CHALLENGERS LOSE ONCE AGAIN. The New Plymouth branch 'of the New (Plymouth Defence Rifle dub retained the Taranaki Associated Rifle Club's Challenge Shield by again defeating thd Okato branch of the club in a challenge match fired at the Rewa Rewa rifle range on. Saturday afternoon. The match was held over the ranges 300, 500 and 600 yards between teams of eight men each. The New Plymouth team scored 730 and the Okato team 715. , The . scoring was not nearly as high as in the last match for the shield between the same two teams, when the New Plymouth team’s total was. a re: cord. A frontal wind, always rather difficult to contend, with, troubled the riflemen on Saturday, and faulty ammunition is also believed to have been a factor wi the lowness of the scores, many competitors finding their rifles 'badly fouled with nickel. Ths New Plymouth branch of the club will be represented at the Island championship meeting at Wanganui on December 28 and 29 by President F. C. Hogg, deputy -Presidents, G. H. Taylor and J. Robinson, Riflemen S. G. Higgs and G. E. Putt. The Okato branch will ba represented by President Roe; buck and Riflemen C. Humphrey, Rook, 0. B, Benton, and C. J. Benton.
