MAHOENUI NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent). A good old-fashioned play was given in the Mahoenui hall recently when much amusement was caused by the magician borrowing a hat from one of the men among the audience and, after taking it in front of the people, commencing to pull from it yards and yards of coloured ribbons, then handkerchiefs, babies’ booties, ladies’ hoe® and some toilet requisites. There was also a wonderful mind reader, yet only a boy in years. This wa? the sort of play that children love, but owing to hard times only & few children were present. A dance followed. Messrs. E. Eason, R. Knewstubb and a friend from Stratford were camped for a few days on the banks of the upper Awakino River. .They enjoyed their outing, having considerable success with their rods, and they left with a fair cargo of fish for their homes last Alonday. The same day Alessrs. W. J. Polson, M.P., and G. Carter,_ Stratford, arrived for a few days’ fishing. Air. Carter had good luck with his rod but Air. Pol-
