INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW

FOREIGN INQUIRIES NUMEROUS TOURER GAINING POPULARITY. British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 .p.m. Rugby, Oct. 15. The international motor show was opened at Olympia this morning. It will remain open until the end of next week. Many nations are represented and Britain has 47 makes of cars on view, the cheapest being priced at £B9. The increase of the number of smaller cars on view has not diminished the exhibits of big and luxurious productions, some of which cost about £3OOO. The favourable terms on which British cars can now ’be purchased for foreign markets have brought an exceptionally large number of trade visitors from abroad. Great interest is being displayed in the aeroplane, automobile and motorboat with which 'Britain established the present world speed records. These certainly constitute a wonderful advertisement for British engineering ability. The show reveals the tremendous advance of the motor-car industry in the face of the world depression. The fact is that at present the industry is on the crest of a wave of prosperity, aided by heavy inquiries from abroad in view of the cheaper sterling. ‘Many of these inquiries are from countries hitherto a closed market. In addition the McKenna, duties protection has allowed the industry virtually to capture the home market, which continues to expand surprisingly. * The exhibition reveals even more graceful lines than hitherto, and a somewhat surprising revival of the tourer, which was hitherto practically jmsted by the saloon.
