FOREIGN BUTTER BLENDED

The question whether foreign butter ■blended with British ia sold-as latter is revived by Lord. Beaverbrook a statement that he definitely knew Russian ■butter was sent to Somerset and blended there, and that three tone were sold yesterday at Chelsea as British butter. Mr. Gilliard Stapleton, chairman of the British Dairy Farmers, atatea that blending is persistently being done in the dairying areas, the butter then realising 2d a lb more than pure Australian or New Zealand butter. In preparation for the operation of the Marking Act in the “middle of February the Empire Dairy Council is conferring with health inspectors throughout Britain with a view to strict enforcement of the Act. It will then be obligatory for butter to be branded either British, Empire or foreign when released by wholesalers, thus enabling a closer check on unfair manipulation.
