DRY TOTARA TOP CRASHES.
INQUEST ON THOMAS BEVINGTON
"That death was accidental was the verdict at the inquest on Thomas Bevington; aged 4G, held at Kotare yesterday 'before Mr. A. M. Bower (actingcoroner) and .a jury comprising Messrs F. Webb, foreman, W. Blanchard, K. Leary and F.' Gustavsen. Bevington was killed instantly on Wednesday when the top ,oL a totura snapped off and crushed hm head. The tree was a dry one standing on a ridge on Bevington’s property on Okau Road, about 12 miles from the Main North Road. In the course of felling operations the top snapped off and crashed down on those below. Two other men had a narrow escape. Mr. Harvey Bevington, a brother, jumped back just in time to avoid injury, but Mr. Fred. Howell was not so fortunate. He was knocked down, his face was cut and an arm slightly hurt. Harvey Bevington and Fred Howell both gave, evidence at the inquest at which Constable Cannon, Mokau, represented the police.
