LADIES’ GUILD HOLDS FAIR
FUNDS FOB CHURCH BUILDING. There was it good attendance at the annual fair held by the ladies’ guild of the St. Aubyn Street Methodist Church, New Plymouth, in the church hall yesterday afternoon. The fair was opened by the Rev. W. J. Henderson in the absence of the Mayoress, Mrs. H. V. S. Griffiths, through indisposition.
In declaring the fair open, Mr. Henderson congratulated the ladies on their efforts. There was no doubt, he said, that the ladies were the financial back-bone of the church. The sale was for a worthy object, the church building fund, and he trusted it would be well supported. Following were the stall-holders: Sewing, Mesdames Frewin and Adamson, Miss Mildred; sweets, Mesdames Thompson and Butler; cakes, Mesdames Loveridge and Bailey; produce, Mesdames Brokenshire and Vivian; Howers, Mrs. G. Mclsaac, Miss Burton; Christmas tree, Mesdames Moyes and Gilbert, Miss McWhihney; afternoon tea, Mesdames Hooker, Hodder, Gilbey and Hamblyn. The president of the guild responsible for the fair is Miss Cannell and the secretary Mrs. Bailey.
