PROTECTION OF MARKETS
GERMANY SWAMPS SWITZERLAND. BREEZE AT LEAGUE COMMITTEE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Geneva, Sept. 20. There was a breeze in the economic committee when the German posse, referring to the Swiss intention to protect her markets against Germany, declared that Switzerland would rue the attempt to upset the European economic system. Germany was desperate, with more than 4,000,000 unemployed, and would enforce reprisals against Swiss trade. M. Staucki retorted that Switzerland was being swamped with foreign goods. Germany was intensifying her exports in order to discharge her war debts. Switzerland was not responsible for the war and should not suffer for it.
