WOMAN SHOOTS
SUSPECTED THIEF HIT. 'WOUNDED MAN ESCAPES. Mrs. Ena Smith, widow, of Centennial Park, Sydney, fired at, and probably wounded, a suspected housebreaker on a recent afternoon. Mrs. Smith, upon hearing a noise at the front of her home, made an investigation, and discovered a man in the act of breaking through a wire screen door. Without alarming the stranger, 1 Mrs. Smith secured a revolver and endeavoured to capture the man. He, however, tried to escape, and Mrs. Smith wounded the euspect in the shoulder. However, his flight was not arrested. The man raced across the lawn, vaulted over the front fence, and made off in the direction of Randwick. Two detectives made a search, but were unable to locate the fugitiwa.
