SOLDIERS’ SETTLEMENT
ASSISTANCE WITH FINANCE YEAR’S OPERATIONS REVIEWED. REVALUATION OF HOLDINGS. By Telegraph-Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Financial assistance by way of ’ new loans or additional advances under tho Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act was granted in 790 cases during the year ended March 31, the total amount authorised being £202.707. These in* eluded 93 new loans amounting to £47,305 and 097 additional loans totalling £155,402. The annual report states that at the end of the year there were 101 leasehold farms previously held by discharged soldiers available for disposal, while 100 farms against which advances had been made to purchase were also awaiting selection. The total area represented was 114,890 acres, priced at £175,908. With regard -to residential properties, there were 189 unsold at the close of the year, valued at £124,635. The result of the year’s- working shows an adverse balance of £234,007, of which £200,681 is represented by losses on realisation and reductions in value under statutory provisions. Lands set apart for selection by discharged soldiers during the year totalled 1828 acres, making a grand total of 1,441,618 acres proclaimed since the inception of the scheme. The Dominion Revaluation Board dealt with 5284 applications for revaluation, representing a capital of £12,528,835, and the reduction in capital made by the board amounted to £2,829,718.
