AMERICAN EXPORTS DOWN
DECREASE DURING AUGUST UNFAVOURABLE TRADE BALANCE FIRST SUCH IN OVER FOUR YEARS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Washington, September 17. - The United States had an unfavourable trade balance of £200,000 during August. This is the first such instance since 1926. The exports announced today for August. by the Commerce Department were £33,000,000, and imports £32,200,000, compared with exports of £49,533,000 for August last year and imports of £43,685,20&. For the eight months ending August, the United States had a favourable for* eign trade balance of £42,830,600. The exports for the same period v were £332,357,000, compared with £528,048,600 for the same period of last year, and imports were £289,526,400 against £434,992,000 last year. During the first four months of 1926 the balances were against the United States, sometimes as much as £15,600,000. Since April of that year the United States has steadily maintained its favourable balance.
