TROUBLE IN BASQUE PROVINCES.
RELIGIOUS RISING FEARED.

Wishing to prevent a rising, allegedly led by Roman Catholics, the Government has sent 30,000 troops with machine-guns and artillery, to the Basque provinces. In addition to the 12 newspapers already suspended, Senor Maura, Minister of the Interior, has closed three further Catholic papers at Pamplona, where Basque religious feeling is most intense. The cruiser Libertad has proceeded to Bilbao, where civil guards are protecting the churches, A Left reaction plot to assassinate Senor Maura, devised by three Socialists, is reported to have been discovered. The conspirators escaped.
