LEPPERTON SCHOOL CONCERT

GREAT SUCCESS ACHIEVED.

There was a capacity house at the Lepperton Hall on Thursday evening when the school concert took place. A number had to stand as the whole of the seating accommodation was coon taken up. Miss Hodgson and Miss Hurle of the teaching staff and Mies M. Jennins are to be congratulated on the splendid way in which the children acquitted themselves and upon the success of the whole concert.

The - programme was as follows: — Overture, Orchestra (Miss M. Jennins, Messrs. E. Hellier, L. Therkleson, R. Gibbons, L. Hancock); recitations, juniors; “As Good As. Gold,” Elsie Oliver; “Aunt Matilda’s Children,” Ron Crowe; “The Things I Like,” P. Lepper; “The Woolly Mat,” B. Paul; “Mrs. Brqwn,” N. Woisin; “The Pig Tail,” I. Jennins;' “The l?opr Friends,” E. Crqfsky; Moy-;: ris Stick Dance, the School; recitations, “Round Abouts and Swings,”'MiSs'Alma Hall; “The -Priest and the- Mulberry Bush,” Miss'J.'Blackball; “The Brownies,” juniors; "Winkers -.nd Blinkers and. Nod,” Keith Cartwright; -‘-The Laughing Knocker,” E. Ying; rhythmic nine, primers; folk dance,' standards 1 and 2; songs, “The Merry Go Round,” “The Woodland Tailor,” “Oh, No, John” and “The Capstan Bar.” The remainder of the items were provided by New Plymouth and Inglewood talent as follows: Song, Mr. ..Will Smith (Inglewood), “Chip of the Old Block” and' “Maire My Giri” as an encore; Miss Turnbull, “Sunshine of Your Smile” and “Were 1”;' Clog Dance, Miss Elwyn Riley (New Plymouth), song, Mr. C. Blake (New Plymouth), “Roadways” and “Sleepy Hollow Tune” as an encore; song, Miss Gwen Beadle (Inglewood), “’Tis June” and “Danny Boy”; song, Mr. Cleland (New Plymouth),. “Old Fashioned Town”; character dance, Miss M. Jennins, Indian Brave; song, Miss Mary Larmer (Inglewood), “I Love the Moon” and “Japanese Love Song.” The concert concluded with a duet by Miss G. Beadle and Mr. W. Smith, “A Perfect Day.”

During the’ evening Mr.' H." Woison, chairman of the school committee, took advantage of the ‘opportunity to publicly say farewell to Miss’ Hurle, the assistant teacher. Mr. Woisin on behalf of the committee expressed their regret that the school' wag losing the services of such a capable teacher and the hope that Miss Hurle would meet with success in her new sphere. Miss Alma Hall was - then called upon to make a presenLttion of a necklace, .of amber' beads to Miss Hurle on behalf of the scholars, and then wee Elsie Oliver came forward on same errand with a . bouquet and a rystal rose bowl. Regret was expressed by Miss Hall, on behalf of the children, that they were to lose their teacher and that 'they had to say au revoir. The evening concluded with a dance, music being supplied by Mr. Claude Grayling. The weather having taken a turn for the belter in the last few.days perhaps the children will be able to thoroughly enjoy themselves during then" holidays, which have, now-commenced.
