WAITARA NEWS

WHITEBAIT APPEAR IN RIVER. . Whitebait have at last made their appearance in the Waitara River and several good catches have been made. Those who are selling their catches, however, are asking a fairly stiff price. The Plunket Society’s dance on Friday proved a successful function, the receipts being over £lO. Martin’s Orchestra provided the music, and the master of ceremonies was Mr. Waters.

The cycle club held a mart in McLean Street on Saturday. It netted about £l2 towards the club’s funds. The public liberally donated produce and other saleable commodities.

The newly-purchased uniforms were worn by the Waitara Band on Saturday night when the band gave a programme in McLean Street. The band seems to be progressing favourably under the conductorship of Mr. C. Sampson.
