DEFEAT OF NORFOLK SIDE

AN INNINGS AND 62 RUNS.

GOOD BOWLING BY NEW ZEALAND

Norwich, August 21.

The New Zealand cricketers gained an easy victory over Norfolk by an innings and 62 runs. The county in the first innings made 97 and followed on. They collapsed again before the accurate bowling of Matheson, Cromb and Merritt and the innings only lasted 85 minutes, producing 66. The New Zealanders had made 225 in- their first innings.

When play was resumed this morning the Norfolk wicketa. fell quickly before the bowling of Merritt, who took six’ wickets for 40 runs. Walker was the only batsman to play confidently and was undefeated for 31.

The second innings proved even more disastrous and the wickets fell in quick succession.

Matheson was favoured with the first really, fast wicket of the tour and bowled at genuine express pace. Against better batsmen he would probably have secured better figures, as more catches would have gone to the slips. The wicket also suited Merritt, who kept a steady length and spun the ball sharply. He disguised his googly effectively. The attendance yesterday was 5000, a record for the ground. To-day'it was 2000. 1 The scores are:— NEW ZEALAND. First innings 223 NORFOLK. I ' First Innings.
