The Irish Tourist Trophy race to-day provided a thrilling contest over the famous Ards circuit of 410 miles in the presence of nearly half a million spectators, including the former King and Queen of Spain, English peers and peeresses and the Governor of Northern Ireland (the Duke of Abercorn). One of the world’s fastest motor-ears blazed and, skidding, crashed through the hedges. A stand containing 60 spectators collapsed, many being injured. The contest ended in a triumph for baby cars, the -Englishman, N. Black, winning after a headlong contest with the Italian B. Borzacehini, while lastyear's winner, the Italian ace Nuvolari, retired with a seized piston. Sir Henry Birkin broke all lap records, with 79.79 miles an hour first, then 80 and 89 miles an hour.
