ESSEX MAN BOWLS 3 FOR 9 RAIN PREVENTS SOME MATCHES. HOBBS MAKES ONLY CENTURY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Aug. 21. . Rain caused, a complete wash-out of some of the county matches that ended to-day. There was no play in Middlesex v*. Derby, Sussex v. Lancashire, and Kent v. Worcester. Bowlers generally completely mastered the batting. Bowling for Esse.: (against which team New Zealand begins a match to-morrow), Nichols took three Notts wickets for nine runs. Hobbs made the only century. Results are:—
Essex beat Nottinghamshire on the first innings. Notts in the first.innings made 58 (Nichole 'took three wickets for 9), and in the second lost seven wickets for 230. Essex in the first innings made 124 (Voce took five wickets for 01). Somerset drew with Surrey. Somerset in the first innings made 286 (Fender took seven wickets for 58). Surrey in the first innings made 193 for no wickets (Hobbs 101 not out). Gloucestershire beat Glamorganshire on the first innings. Glamorgan in the first innings made 111 (Sinfield took six wickets for 43), and in the second lost three Wickets for 76. Gloucester in the' first innings lost eight wickets for 175 and declared.
Northamptonshire drew with Yorkshire. Northants in the .first innings made 163 and Yorkshire made 38 for no wickets.
