WEST END SCHOOL CHILDREN
ADMINISTRATION MATTERS. Administration matters concerning West End school children were reported upon at the monthly meeting of the committee on Thursday. Miss Fowles notified her resignation, she having decided to accept a position at Palmerston North. Members expressed regret and praised the work Miss Fowles had done during the four years she had taught at West End. The dental clinic committee wrote regarding payment of amounts in issue. Completion of arrangements was deferred until after the Clinic’s September meeting. A fancy dress ball is to be held next month. Arrangements were completed. The committee decided to photograph the “C” football team that had won the competition three years successively, and that members should present a framed enlargement to the school. The headmaster reported several children had fallen on the Lavis Lane footpath leading to the school. Two members spoke of the dangerous state of this footpath. Messrs. F. Parker and W. H. Jones were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing month. The headmaster reported the number on the roll was 432, the average attendance 411.7, and the highest attendance 416, Ho wished to place on record the good work done by Miss Fowles. Her work had earned high commendation from the department. The school had taken part in Music Week, 70 pupils participating. There were present at the meeting Messrs. W. H. Jones (chairman), F, Parker, F. Brunton, C. O. Berg, T. Parsons, C. McLeod, H. J. Abram (hon. secretary) and J. A. Shimmin, headmaster.
